CPA Requirements for WV
In order to be a Certified Public Accountant in West Virginia, individuals must have completed a bachelor’s degree and taken 150 credit hours in college (this hour requirement is for licensure, you may sit for the exam before completing the 150 hours.) Individuals must have completed a minimum of twenty-seven hours in accounting, twenty-seven hours in business courses, and six hours in business law classes. The process for taking the CPA exam begins with reviewing the exam requirements, then submitting an exam application, submitting transcripts, paying exam fees, and scheduling the exam. After the application is processed, exam fees for all four parts of the exam (Audit, Financial, Regulation, Business) will be able to be paid to the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy within ninety days; once payment is received, a notice to schedule will be sent to the applicant. Candidates will also be encouraged to enroll in the Becker CPA Review, which will greatly increase chances at success in passing the exam. In West Virginia, the exam can be sat for in Charleston and Morgantown.
I will not meet all of the requirements for CPA licensure in West Virginia upon graduation, because I will only have 127 credit hours completed. I will meet all of the other requirements, and plan to attend graduate school in order to complete the 150 hour requirement. Hopefully I will be accepted into the MPA program at WVU so I can spend another year here and be with familiar professors and classmates, but if not, I can get into Marshall’s master’s program much easier. I wish to obtain the CPA so that I can further my career in the business world and be a more credible and accepted accountant. By obtaining my CPA, I hope to advance further in whatever field I go into, and eventually apply to MBA schools so that I can have a better opportunity at being an executive in an industry I find I enjoy after being exposed to different types of industries...
