Curriculum and Classroom For A Four Year Old
A four year old child is an uniqueness all unto its own, they are like small grownups whom are ready to explore the world around them with continuous questions and observations. In developing a high quality early childhood curriculum for this age many things must be taken into consideration, what theories and philosophies will guide curriculum and help create the classroom; what academic concepts are going to be taught and activities that will be used that meet appropriate standards.
A well created philosophy of a teacher will usually show the style of teaching that is done by this person, their strengths etc. A teacher will normally choose a particular philosopher and/or theory to base own teaching philosophy on. It will include "the NAEYC requirements (National Association for the Education of Young Children, n.d.); it should also present the underlying philosophy that will guide the teacher's curriculum choices and classroom management style." (How to Develop a Philosophy of Teaching for Early Childhood Education, n.d.). There are multiple guidelines and regulations that are created by individual states, NAEYC, developmentally appropriate practices etc. that have to followed or taken into consideration for a curriculum and classroom management. "Research shows that a strong learning foundation provided for children in Early Childhood Education programs (ages 0-5 years old) lasts a lifetime." The environment will help a child expand on their curiosity and help them grow, physically and mentally through such things as music and art.
