DATE RAPE
Throughout the world, rape is considered one of the most controversial crimes to be committed. Date rape is a rape that often occurs at a party and in the presence of certain drugs. Date rape is less a technical term for the acquaintance rape where the offender is defined as a non-relative whom the victim knew the person. However, this relationship can vary from case to case. In some cases, the offender and the victim may have been their first day of the incident, while in other countries; they may be in a steady relationship. A great number of studies on this subject shows that date rape is a common social problem, which is not limited exclusively to students. The media and date rape with the rise of feminism in the last few decades’ newfound sexual freedom of men and women. However, this freedom is very expensive, resulting in date rape.
Date rape typically occurs when a person alone with a woman. Although it was reported that men have been raped, it is much more common for a woman to be raped. While everyone is in agreement as to the definition of rape, a force sexual act, many experts debate on who is at fault and what can be done to prevent date rape, but most agree that it is “never the victims fault, regardless of the situation”. Despite what some experts say about girls using suggestive or flirty behavior to “deserve to be raped”, the man is always at blame. Nothing a girl says, does, or wears constitutes being raped. Paglia says that it is the victim who is to blame, for provoking such an attack by a brutish man, while Jacoby says that a small and ugly minority of men , who can’t take no for an answer are at fault for date rape.
In a date rape situation, the victim can never be blamed for being raped, no matter what. Date rape widely occurs on college campuses and parties, and statistically it is the most “prevalent, serious violent crime committed at schools”.
