Describe the Experiences That Have Led You to Select Your Professional Field and Objective. Why Have You Chosen This Particular College to Obtain This Objective?

When you ask a child what they want to be when they grow up, they may say things like a doctor, a construction worker, a professional sports player, a teacher, etc. When I was asked, I would always say that I wanted to be a teacher. Today, I still want to be a teacher, for elementary age children. My friends and I always used to use our imaginations, and play “teacher”. Being the teacher was my favorite thing, to help other kids learn, and to read picture books to them. Certain teachers that I have had in the past, and present, have helped me decide that I want to spend the rest of my life doing; teaching young children. When teachers interact with students, such as, helping them understand things that aren’t clear, makes the teacher and the student feel like they have made an accomplishment.
I have decided to major in Elementary Education and a minor in psychology. The experiences that I have had, helped me come to the conclusion of this field. Over the years, I have babysat many children, from ages four to ten. There were ups and downs of being in charge of these kids, such as not listening to me when they are told to do something, bad behavior and fighting with siblings. But, in the end it worked out for me because I did what had to be done, such as discipline when they do something inappropriate. Over the summer of 2008, I was a nanny for two boys, ages six and seven. It was not an easy job. They were good kids when they wanted to be, but when something didnt go their way, it was a bad day. I was with them for the whole day, and everyday I would want to take them to the park or to a movie, but whenever I brought up the idea of going somewhere, there was screaming and crying, that they didn’t want to leave the house. That was the hardest part of babysitting them because it was so hard to get up in the morning and know that they didn’t want to leave the house.
