According to my interview with my grandmother in Costa Rica and researching on the Internet I figure out that different cultures has its own home remedy in which they all work. In my world I take the easy way out when I get sick, I drink off the container medication that will relief but not cure the pain. In the past I have noticed that things that I have bought over the counter don’t work as much as the home remedies that my grandmother has taught me to use.
During my interview with my grandmother, Maria Anchia, it was great talking to her since it’s been awhile. I asked her about remedies that are used in Costa Rica for headaches. She suggested that massages in the scalp can relieve headaches due to the fact that it can be cause of tension or stress, a good sleep and oils of lavender on forehead and neck are good too. In my situation I drink either Tylenol, or Excedrin. If a person has a cold they are suggested to get plenty of rest and drink cold medicines, but according to my granny she suggested eating chicken soup, plenty of rest, and drinking tea with honey. Fever are also very common when getting a cold. Some home remedies that I use for my son when he gets high fevers are cold pads applied to head and body, plenty of fluids and granny suggested rubbing alcohol on the bottom of his feet. For sore throats I’ve been taught drinking tea with lemon and honey and gargling water with salt helps cure the pain.
Other remedies that are used are for stomachaches drinking herbal teas made from chamomile and peppermint and putting heating pads on stomach, will relieve the pains. For toothaches I will use ambesol, but in my country they say chewing a clove of garlic with salt relieves or even cures the pain on your tooth. As. a young girl I wouldn’t eat much, my appetite was not normal, so my father will give me pills of cod fish which are have a bitter taste but they surely open up your appetite.
