In this paper I will discuss the environmental ethical issues. We will go over the issues of the past, current and anticipated future events. I will also talk about climate change, conservation, energy and other important topics. The US is one of only two countries that have not signed up for the Kyoto Protocol. Next to China we are the second largest emitter of carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels. There is an international issue surrounding the US regarding its climate change due to its dominance in world affairs and its high level of greenhouse gases. According to reports the Obama Administration will appoint a “climate czar” in an effort to coordinate the Energy/Environment/Interior departments. Soon after the first human settlement many plant and animal species became extinct including the North American mega fauna. The American bison and California condor became nearly extinct after the European settlement. In 1914 the last of the American pigeons became dead; they were the most common bird in North America also known as passenger pigeons. Not only were they killed as a source of food but also because they were a threat to farming. About 86% of all types of energy used are derived from fossil fuel consumption in the US; they have been able to closely link it to greenhouse gas emissions as well as climate change. The energy policy which is determined by federal, state and local entities in the US address issues of energy production, distribution and consumption. December 2003 the Healthy Forest Initiative was signed into legislation by implementing key provisions. Clear Skies Initiative was another subject of controversy with Bush, which seeks to reduce air pollution through expansion of emissions trading. In 2002 Bush signed into federal government the Great Lakes Legacy and Brownsfield Legislation.
