Domestic Violence can be defined as violent or aggressive behavior within the home, typically involving a spouse or a partner. The wider definition of domestic violence involves the abuse of children and elders as well. In previous times, we have heard about women being abused by their husbands or male lovers. Now, men are being abused by their wives or female lovers, in the case of homosexual relationships, their male lovers. Another common encounter is that kids, step children, children, nieces, nephews, etc. are abused by their older family members, as well as elders are abused by younger family members. Domestic violence occurs for many various reasons. These reasons are influenced and triggered by either psychological purposes or pressure upon the individual. One of these reasons is pressure from loss of job. This can cause an individual to not focus on their regular routine, and by continuing to add problems unto that specific individual, can cause them to retaliate in a negative way. They may react towards their kids, spouse or elderly parents or relatives.
Drinking alcohol and using drugs can be another reason for domestic violence. Alcohol can lead an individual to lose their mind, causing them to lash out to anyone around them which is usually family members. Domestic violence also happens when one partner feels the need to dominate and control the other for their various reason and beliefs. This usually occurs because of a low self-esteem, extreme jealousy, difficulties in regulating anger, and other strong emotions in regard to feeling inferior to their partner in regards to their educational background, their financial background and possibly their ethnic background. This abuse can occur physically, sexually and emotionally.
