What is neo liberal ideology? Neoliberalism is a very important, yet often misunderstood concept. To put everything into perspective it has become an important object to produce analysis in human geography for the last 10 years. ‘It argues that, in theorisizing neoliberalism as ‘a political project’, critical human geographers have ended up reproducing the same problem they ascribe to the ideas they take to be driving forces behind contemporary transformations:’ (Harvey 2005:2).
Education policies are kind of obvious why they have been put into place, the main reason being because it keeps all the different types of education departments in place and are instructed by governments in what steps to take next. One of the education policies which was put into place was the ‘Education Reform Act 1988’, also known to be the most important education legislation in England, some of the provisions which have been included in the reform act include, CTC (city technology colleges), grant maintained schools, key stages in schools, local management of school and also the national curriculum, all these were introduced in order to gradually help the standard of schools. Also, the ‘Academies Act 2010’ is a one other policy which has been introduced not long ago allows all publically funded schools in England to become academies, there would be not much change put in place but would increase staff wages. The idea was taken from the Swedish free school system, the reason why the idea was taken is because of how successful the Swedish school system was, ‘In 1992, Sweden introduced a voucher scheme in which privately run (including for-profit) schools could receive public funding for each pupil they educated on the same terms as municipality schools.
