Philosophy statement I believe that children experience the greatest growth when they feel secure and wanted. Therefore, I will provide a warm, caring, comfortable and safe environment for my students. Together, we will establish routines that are predictable and consistent. All children will be treated with gentleness, honesty and respect. I will encourage them to treat others in this same manner. My classroom will be an unbiased atmosphere where students are encouraged to celebrate diversity and culture. I am committed to student learning and believe that educators are important role models. Therefore, I will use modeling as a vital tool in our classroom. To maintain an atmosphere where children feel comfortable and confident, I will use constructive guidance and positive reinforcement. I feel it is also necessary to establish and clearly define reasonable limits with logical consequences. The children will be encouraged to take ownership in shaping our classroom dynamics through openly sharing their work, and ideas which will enrich their peers and foster their intellectual development. Children have individual learning preferences, differences and needs. I will help ensure that each student feels successful by developing independent thinking skills, and problem solving techniques that encourage risk taking, students will implement a diverse selection of methods to constructively analyze and solve situations collaboratively. It is essential that children develop interpersonal skills that allow them to work together as a team. They must exhibit mutual respect and listen empathically to adequately understand rather than seeking purely to advocate their own ideas. I am dedicated to monitoring student understanding. Through carefully assessing individual student progress, I can address deficiencies and celebrate successes.
