Cerebral Palsy is a disorder that affects the brain and nervous system this includes movement, learning, hearing, thinking, and seeing. Some of the causes for cerebral palsy are injuries or abnormalities of the brain and usually this occurs within the womb or within the first 2 years of a childs life. The brain can be injured by several different reasons such as low oxygen, bleeding on the brain, brain infections, or infections in the mother during pregnancy. Cerebral palsy can be mild or severe and some of the symptoms are muscle weakness, tight joints, and delayed development this usually occurs within the first 2 years but can show symptoms as early as 3 months old. Cerebral palsy can affect one side of the body or both sides and will usually cause hearing and vision problems, speech problems, and learning disabilities in infants the signs might be difficuty in sucking or swallowing, or drooling that is extensive. There is no cure for cerebral palsy the best treatment depends on each person but this includes helping to make the person as independent as possible.
Epilepsy are repeated seizures and are caused by changes in the brain that are permanent and cause the brain to be jumpy which results in the brain sending out abnormal signals. Epilepsy can be caused by stroke, alzheimer's disease, Traumatic brain injury or brain problems that were caused at birth there are several reasons why someone can have epilepsy and they all affect the brain and symptoms can show at any age but they usually shows signs between the ages of 5-20. An EEG (electroencephalogram) is the best way to monitor the electrical system within the brain but because the brain may appear to be normal between seizures so the EEG may need to be worn for several days or weeks. CT or MRI scans can also be done to locate the problem in the brain treament usually involves surgery or medication and can usually be controlled with these treatments.
