Over the last century, urbanization, industrialization and increasing population have dramatically risen the consumption of energy.
Energy is used in transportation, household electrical appliances and factories. Most energy is obtained from combustion of fossil fuels. These involve the emission of carbon dioxide causing greenhouse effect. Heats are trapped leading to global warming and climate change. Manufacturing of refrigerator and air-conditioner uses chlorofluorocarbon which if escape to the atmosphere will deplete the ozone layer.
As an individual energy consumer, we need to educate our children and future generation to increase their awareness of the energy consumption to the environment. We build an eco-friendly home. We use energy efficient electrical appliances, solar panels and insulate high ceiling roof. We can plant trees which give positive impact on carbon dioxide, encourage others to car pool to decrease amount of greenhouse gases and recycle paper so less trees will be cut down. By eating further down the food chain such as vegetables, we can reduce the amount of greenhouse gases as animal food products require more resources in their production and generate more greenhouse gases. We can compose our food waste to create natural fertilizer and reduce amount of waste.
The government can also help by having educational school programs and advertisements on media that helps to increase awareness among the community. Authority can reduce taxes for factories which use or manufacture energy saving appliances and electric cars. Hefty fine should be impose on illegal deforestation and release of fluorocarbon into the atmosphere. Incentives should be given to those who invents energy efficient equipment.
As far as mankind knows, Earth is the only place where life exists in the solar system. Earth is fragile. So, to protect her, we need to use earth’s energy wisely.
