War on Drug
Nowadays, medical systems are developed substantially. People are able to cure the majority of diseases by using drugs. However, there are some kinds of drugs that are prohibited by law because of the negative effects on the human body; these drugs are called illegal drugs. Some examples of illegal drugs include heroin, cocaine and marijuana. Illegal drugs are becoming more common over time in the United States. The most popular illegal drug in the world is marijuana. Moreover, marijuana is also the most dangerous illegal drug. Marijuana is the most consumed illegal substance in the United States. Illegal drugs have become the greatest issue in the United States.
Thousands of years ago, the illegal drugs such as marijuana and cocaine were created on the purposes of medical and spiritual use. However, because of the huge negative effect on human health and abuse of drug, these kinds of drugs were prohibited. Drug Policy Alliance also mentions that in the early 1870s, opium was brought over into the United States by Chinese immigrants. At that time, the first law about anti-opium was launched. After that, from 1900s to 1920s, the government introduced another law to prohibit many other harmful drugs such as cocaine and marijuana. Moreover, after a few decades, illegal drugs became a huge problem in the United States. At the time, the police departments in the United States were not able to control drug use on the streets. Until now, the United States government has spent more than a trillion dollars on the war against illegal drug and over hundred million people have been arrested on drug related charges.
