Inclusion means involving all and treating them equally and fairly, without directly or indirectly excluding anyone
Equality is the enjoyment of equal rights by all, each individual being regarded as of the same importance and receiving the same treatment.
Formally equality was referred to as equal opportunities.
Diversity is valuing the individual differences and peculiarities of people.
Referral means providing access to specific learner needs outwith the standard provision. This could be crèche facilities or access to travel funding to and from the classes
I will be teaching an introduction to health and safety in construction for a national training organisation
Diversity manifests in many ways in the general population and therefore also in learning groups.
Examples of diversity are:
• Different individual learning styles i.e. kinaesthetic, visual and audio
• Different age groups
• Physical disability
• Specific learning needs
At the start of the course I would do the following:
1) Study the enrolment forms and identify any specific learning needs.
2) Carry out a learning styles activity.
3) Carry out a ground rules exercise to discuss behaviour expectations and establish group agreement
Items 1 & 2 would help in tailoring the delivery to maximise inclusion and item 3 could encourage inclusion and equality through the adherence to well designed ground rules.
