Position Paper #1
I will have to agree with William Golding's that human nature is corrupt. My own personal belief follows the path of the Christian Old Testament in which both Adam and Eve brought sin into a perfect world and every person since has been born into a body which is stained with sin. Even though this is what I believe to be true I will try to make my position not based on Scripture but non-religious unbiased thought alone. Pojman writes that one doesn't need to be a theist to accept the message that human nature has a tendency to selfishness, which is willing to harm others unjustly. Pojman's message correlates with the description of the children of Lord of the Flies, when after the kids go hunting for pigs, they lust in the killing, and practice sexual rituals, and sadistic sodomy towards the pigs with their spears. The children liberated from their social selves, laws of society, and anyone with moral teachings, find themselves killing anyone that gets in their way without remorse, ex. These things said, as Sophie perfectly puts it, is callow and cruel, especially directed at a woman whose rights and liberties cease to exist. The next example is not a quote or line but rather a situation in which Sophie is put in. The...
