Flight - Essay

Flight has been the dream of humankind since they watched in awe as birds flew through the sky effortlessly and according to some scientist humans designed airplanes as far back as 200 B.C, more than 2000 years ago!

Although it was theorized that heavier-than-air flight was possible as early as the 13th century, and in the 16th century Leonardo da Vinci designed winged aircraft and a crude helicopter, it wasn't until the Wright brother made their first successful flight in 1903 that powered flight became a reality. That is widely accepted history. Some researchers and a few scientists believed there's evidence to suggest that ancient Egyptians achieved flight earlier in history?.so much earlier, they say that the knowledge of this technology has been lost in history.

Is it possible that ancient Egyptians developed this technology to fly in early history and has now been lost? An object was discovered in 1898 within the tomb at Saqquara, Egypt and was later dated as having been created near 200 B.C. As airplanes was unknown in the days it was found it was put in a box called "wooden bird model" and then was stored in the basement of the Cairo museum. It was later discovered by a Dr. Khalil Messiha, who studied ancient models made by the ancient Egyptians. The "discovery" was considered so important by the Egyptian government that a special committee of leading scientist was established to study the object.

As a result of their findings a special exhibit was set up in the center hall of the Cairo museum, with the little model as its center piece. It was even labeled as a model airplane. The airplane model has the exact proportions of an advanced form of a "pusher-glider" and this type of glider will almost stay in the air by itself-even a very small engine will keep it going at low speeds, as low as 45 - 65 mph, while it can carry an enormous payload. This ability is dependent on the shape of wings and their proportions. The tipping of wings downward, a...
