One in twenty people are gay, lesbian, or bisexual. In society there are many types of cultures, beliefs and religions. Sexuality is something that everyone experiences, thought out the process of finding out who you are. Today in Canada society is a lot more understanding then they once were. There are more and more people coming out about their sexuality. Some people think sexual orientation is established early in life, while others find their own place later in life through experiences. In the media gays get a lot a unwanted attentions. Since relationships are formed with the same sex there is now argument about marriage. Same sex marriage causes a lot of controversy, people tend to either agree or disagree with the subject. The Michaels met in 1981, it was both their first gay relationship they were both in. The couple met in the “80’s before HIV and AIDS” states Michael. They fought for same sex benefits and pensions and won the case four years later in 1922. The next case that occurred was in 1999 for marriage. On June 10, 2003 the Michaels got married in Canada. They were the first gay couple to ever marry in Canada. The fight they won lets all gay people be able to get married today. The couple is now recognized and thanked for their fight throughout Canada. In the late years no one talked about gay, lesbian, transgender people, it was something that was kept private. In addition to not coming out people held in what they truly felt about their sexual orientation. Some would go their whole life alone or pretending they were attracted to the opposite gender.
