A. Opening Statement: How many people here have ever heard of the game of chess? The history of chess spans some 1500 years an after being around for so long it has become one of the most popular games in the world. In some countries it was actually a requirement to know how to play the game of chess as one of their critical skills. So how is it that a board game like chess has become so wide spread? Chess may seem like an intimidating game at first glance and for others it may appear to be mathematically challenging, but the game of chess can be learned with relative ease. It also teaches how quick and irrational decisions have consequences, which is a concept that can be applied in real life. In today’s class you will learn not only where the game of chess originated, but the impact that it has had on many different cultures throughout the world.
