History of Computers

In the world of the 21st century technology has overwhelm our lives these days. Some of the biggest technology is computers. Everyday more than half of the world’s employers use computers. In the past computers weren’t so high-tech before they used to be all binary based programs, which was the only way to program the computers but binary was eventually replaced by later modern computer languages some named C+, C++, and java script. Most of these low tech binary based computers started in the 1939-1950. One of the first computer’s was the HP 200A which was a sound effects machine and later eight more were made for Walt Disney and then used in the 1940’s movie “Fantasia.” In 1940 the CNC or the Complex Number Calculator was completed and made by Bell Telephone Laboratories was probably one of the first electronic calculators to these days. But in 1944 the new Harvard-Mark 1 was completed, this calculator was a room sized computer and was fifty feet long, only this calculator was for complex math questions which you would see in modern calculus. Finally in 1948 a guy named Claude Shannon’s showed engineers a new language to type in new data. It wasn’t till 1949 where the Manchester Mark 1 was invented; this was the first completed prototype computer which could fit in a medium sized room. Then in 1950 the new way of data storage was built, this was called the magnetic drum and could hold up to a good 4,000 words and retrieved and word in 5 thousandth of second.
It was ten years later in 1960 where the first minicomputer called the PDP-1 was finally completed and then was sold for $120,000. In 1961 the first industrial robot was made and it was a 4000 pound moving arm which stacked hot die-cast metals. Now in 1963 Radio Shack was founded which sold a variety of electronic parts. Also in 1963 the first artificial robot arm was made and it was the first to be controlled by a computer. The first reliable, fast, and small storage computer was made and for the cost it...
