Greed: How bad is America’s Greed?
Greed has been an ongoing issue in America for many, many years. As politicians, corporations and private citizens in this country seem to care more about maximizing profits to benefit themselves and their own personal greed at any cost and they don’t care who they step on to get there. As I was doing some research I found out that I’m not the only one who feels that greed is destroying our great country. I found three excellent writers that I can sympathize with: Andrew Greeley a writer for the Chicago Times wrote the article “America’s Disease is Greed”; Michael S. James a writer for the ABC News wrote the “Is Greed Ever Good” and writer Ian S. Markham wrote the online article “Is Geed So Bad”. Andrew Greeley in the article “America’s Disease is Greed” writes about how greed effects America is many different areas such as how politicians use political offices for own purpose to control the industry of which they invest. ABC’s writer Michael S. James starts off he’s article with talking about stock speculator named Ivan Boesky once claimed that “greed is healthy” in 1985. But as American’s we should have known better that to believe that, as in most religions in the American culture greed is a sin. Writer Ian S. Markham writes about how the greed of sub-prime mortgages hurt American’s and Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme and forms of greed in this country. When we think of greed we tend to think money, monetary assets and personal assets or anything one can personally own. In today’s world greed brings corporate scandals, crooked politicians, self-indulgence, and dramatic economic decline. In America our personal greed and selfishness has gotten out of control and if we as Americans don’t control our greedy ways our great national will see some very hard times to come in our future.
