Regular upkeep and maintenance of your personal computer is very important and you should never ignore or put off this aspect. Proper maintenance of a computer helps in preventing numerous computer problems in which will save on avoiding that call to a technician.
The first step towards maintaining your computer is protecting peripheral devices from moisture and extreme heat. Placing devices too close to other devices or heat sources, and storing devices in moist or humid environments can cause significant damage.
Step two involves the cleaning of the monitor, keyboard and mouse. Regular cleaning of screen of your monitor will lead to clear visibility and enhance the duration that you spend in front of your computer. Clean the screen with a lint-free cloth. You can also use special monitor wipes that are safe for CRT and LCD monitors. Cleaning the mouse properly can extend its life and prevent damage.  This will also prevent cursor from moving erratically due to dirt on its rollers. There are two different types of mousses used on personal computer, a roller and a laser eye so cleaning methods varies. To clean a wheel mouse, remove the cover of the mouse ball from the bottom of the mouse. Clean the rollers with a cotton swab dipped in a very small amount of liquid soap or run the roller over the sticky side of a strip of duct tape. To clean the laser eye, use a lightly damp cotton swab with water and gently wipe across the lens to clean the area.
