This letter is in reference to you requesting advice with regard to Smith’s Accounting and Tax Services. As a management consultant, I look at cases from different perspectives based on the case scenario and years of experience. Amanda, most small businesses fail today because of poor management practices and poor planning. Opening a business is not an easy task to fulfill; however, when one has the passion and desire to do so, there are possibilities for the business to excel. In addition to this, one needs to be ready to take responsibility for most or every challenges that the business faces. After reviewing the case Amanda, I would like to make some recommendations to that will benefit the business, employees and the clientele. These recommendations are the mission and vision statements for Smith Accounting and Tax services, fairness of employees, follow-up on tasks performed, and working standards. All of these recommendations fall into the functions of management which are organizing, controlling, planning and directing (Certo & Certo, 2013).
Mission and vision statements are one of the very important factors in the process of the business management. As the manager and owner of Smiths Accounting and Tax services, it shows that the requirements and qualifications needed were met when the business started; in addition to this, you hired employees and build your clientele because you had the opportunity to do so. You do an admirable job; however you did not pay attention to the most important part of a business owner, which is making sure that the business runs smoothly. Your focus was more on building clientele and earning more profits and less on the performance standards of your employees.
