The Challenges of being a Single Mom

Being a single mom raising two teenage boys can be a challenge. I have two teenage boys that I am raising basically by myself with no help from their father. This can be a challenge because there are just certain things that I can’t teach them that a male figure can. I have been a single parent now for about seven years and it has been the most challenging but rewarding time of my life. I believe that being the children have matured faster than a child that would be raised in a normal family, being they have to depend on themselves to do things. I have tried to make sure that I have a job that lets me be here at night with them to help them with their homework and whatever else that they have going on in their lives. My oldest has become the man of the family being he has helped me raise his little brother. There is only about two years between them but if you were to meet them you can tell that the youngest son looks up to his brother for advice and guidance. During this time I have placed my personal life on hold and continuously focus on their well being and welfare. I have really struggled in the past year and a half now being I have been laid off from my job. Since then I have been looking for another full-time job and trying to stay a full-time student here at Nash Community College. I am trying to obtain my associates degree in Business Administration, with the hopes of opening my own photography studio so that I can work hours to be more accommodating to my boys schedule. My oldest son will be a sophomore in high school and my youngest will be entering the fifth grade when school starts back this fall. Raising daughters can be hard from what all my friends say that have girls and I believe that would actually be easier.
