“Tourism is the world’s largest industry and is experiencing a growth rate of 4-5 percent annually.” (Pearcy & Lester, 2012) Our organization, A Resort Built for Excellence, has decided to take on a new venture in the country of Jamaica. This country has been a work in progress over the last several years in an effort to build their economy. The value of the Jamaica dollar is 109.36 to the American dollar. This project will be put into play to increase the value of the Jamaican dollar. Thus far, tourism has been the major resource that has simulated the economy. “The study also assessed the impact of the increased number of hotels on specific economic and social indicators in the economy. The results revealed that these investments generate both positive and negative impacts. For example, there is increased direct employment in the tourism industry and also indirect employment in other industries (e.g. Agriculture) that benefit from the spillovers from the investment in the hotels.” (Williams & Deslandes, 2008)
When collecting this information, Resorts Built for Excellence has decided to continue to focus on tourism. We are not going to take the common route in building a resort, with the traditional swimming pool, spa and restaurant. Our approach for the resort will be more family oriented. We want to focus on expanding the amount of tourist that comes to the island. If couples are bringing their entire household it will expand the revenue for the country. The more people we get on the island the more money that people will spend. A significant increase in money will spent not only on room, but on other activities, because there will be more people to take part. Food also, there are more mouths to feed when the family goes on vacation. The main focus is to transition the island from being a place that is traditionally known for a vacation spot for couples.
