Junk Food Should Not Be Banned in Schools
Junk food is very popular nowadays. When people think of junk food, they think about chocolate bars, potato chips, and candy bars. Actually, there are lots of junk foods sold to children and teenagers every year, and they usually buy it in their school. Consequently, people have different opinion on whether or not junk food should be provided in school. Some people think students should be able to choose what they want to eat including junk food. Others favor the thought that students should eat healthier food in school such as vegetables and fruits. There are some primary schools taking meal plan and only providing health food for students today. That is incorrect because children lose their power to select food. Junk food should not banned in school because of three reasons: having junk food in school will be benefit for the economy of schools and students, will save money and time of student on eating, and will give students freedom of food choices.
First of all, school and students can get many advantages of economy from junk food. There is a report of NBCNEWS, “ In 2001, before the Seattle School Board adopted the ban on junk food, high-school associated student body (ASB) governments across the city earned $214,000 in profits from vending machines, according to a district spokeswoman. So far this year they have earned only $17,000. The ASB organizations use this money to support a variety of school activities, athletics and clubs” (Wood). From this news, there are almost two hundred thousand dollars differences per year after banning the junk food in Seattle high school. Consequently, the ASB do not have money to support school. In fact, this big number is only obtained from a Seattle organization, but it is much lower than the really number of selling junk food of Seattle high schools.
