Looking for Alaska
Looking for Alaska,
published in 2005
by John Green. This book is hilarious and very
realistic. While it is not a very appropriate book for High School students. The book has lots of
bad language, sexual scenes and some drug/alcohol use. There are many High school students
that are not mature enough to read this book. Although most High School students already know
about sexual things, the use of drugs and alcohol, and the language involved in the book. This
book could also lure some readers into wanting to try the things they do in the book.
Miles Halter also known as “Pudge” as you will later find out is a young High school kid.
Pudge leaves his public school in Florida, to join Culver Creek a boarding school in Alabama.
Culver Creek is one of the best High schools in the nation. Pudge will be miles away from home
living on the High school campus with his roommate, Chip Martin or as he goes by in the book “
The Colonel.” Chip immediately tells Pudge to stay away from the preps. Pudge soon finds out
that Chip is not the best influence on him. Chip introduces Pudge to Alaska Young. Pudge
quickly falls in love with Alaska. You will almost immediately find out that she is not the best
influence on Pudge either. Pudge and Chip later go down and sit on a swing by the lake. Chip
then pulls out some cigarettes and lights one and hands it to Pudge. Pudge who has never done
drugs or anything of the sort in his life, takes the cigarette. Chip warns Pudge about “The Eagle”
of Culver creek or the watch out guy. Later in the book Pudge, Alaska, Chip, and some of Chips
friends from school all take a camping trip, which they soon talk Pudge into another thing he has ...
