AT&T Wireless
American Telephone and Telegraph, Inc. (AT&T, Inc.) recently merged with SCB and BellSouth. After the completion of the merger Cingular Wireless became AT&T Wireless. AT&T Wireless formally known as Cingular Wireless represents the largest wireless company in the United States. AT&T consists of more than 71 million subscribers who use the nation’s fastest 3G network (AT&T.com., 2008). The dedication of AT&T is to provide customers with wireless technology designed to enrich their lives (AT&T.com., 2008). Customers with AT&T receive excellent products and services, such products and services include outstanding customer services, limited cell phones and mobile devices, revolutionary technology, and a variety of rate plans. The managers and leaders within AT&T must maintain a healthy organization culture in order to obtain the goals and mission of the organization. An organizational culture is described as, “the set of important assumptions about the organization and its goals and practices that members of the company share,” according to Bateman and Snell (2007). The managers and leaders play vital roles and have vital responsibilities in the construction of the organizational culture.
AT&T has many managers and leaders who distribute to the success of the organization culture. According to Bateman and Snell, (2007) management is the process of working with people and resources to accomplish organizational goals. Ralph de la Vega is president and chief executive officer of AT&T Wireless, since October 2007 (AT&T.com., 2008). De la Vega is responsible for all wireless operation, including sales, marketing, operations and networks (AT&T.com, 2008). Within the organization de la Vega would be considered a top-level management. Being a top-level management means that de la Vega is concerned with the organization and the communication with its external environment.
