This essay is going to discuss the settings organisational environment and role of management in responding to the most recent Office for Standards in Education report (Ofsted). Ofsted aims to raise the standards within educational and care settings and they actively encourage all settings to continuously improve and to be effective and efficient (Ofsted, 2009). The setting which is to be discussed is a Government aided primary school with 600 pupils on roll. There are seven mixed age classes and three year groups are in each class. The school is situated at the side of a local street; most of the children who attend the school live in the area. 95% of the children are of an Asian British heritage. There is a middle to average proportion of pupils with learning difficulties which attend the school. The setting was last inspected in 2008 and was given the grade of good for the overall effectiveness of the school.

The school successfully achieved its aim to welcome children into a safe and secure mixed environment and continuously provides excellent education throughout foundation, key stage 1 and 2, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs expresses the importance of meeting children’s personal individual needs so that the child can flourish and grow onto the next stage of the hierarchy (Daly et al, 2009). This is evident to see within the school as Ofsted state that the children within the school thrive and find learning very enjoyable, therefore become responsible and mature members of the community who show high levels of empathy for others.

The leadership within the setting was quoted as being good and the teaching and learning is of a very good standard throughout the school. The Trait theory states that a person must have certain qualities to be able to lead and it is assumed that they inherit these (Macleod-Brudenell et al, 2008).
