In this paper the student will chose two management theories from the Contemporary Management textbook. The student will prepare a word analysis of management theories and include the following: How management theories apply or do not apply to his current work environment. He will examine the development of management theories over the last 20 years. How this has reflected the changing business environment, additionally the student will describe how the role of management is manifested along the key management functions. He will also evaluate the most effective management competencies and styles based on an organization similar to the work environment he currently is employed.
Management Theories at the Students Current Work Environment
In this paper the two theories the Student chose to use are organizational environment theory and behavior theory. Spending twenty-six years in the military one would think that being a good manager/leader would become second nature. The fact of the matter is there is a lot to learn about management and management theories. When we look closely at the organizational theory it is based on the idea there are outside factors that contribute to the success of an organization. The military is organized in such a way that operating procedures are the same across different unites. Which works well when different unites carry out the same mission from different parts of the globe. What it does not do is produce goods and services, one might say that keeping world peace is a needed service. When we examine the student’s current employment agency in which the mission has changed to a supportive role.
