Throughout time there has been a talk about the legalization of drugs and drug abuse throughout the world. We talk about what drugs should legal depending on how harmful they are to the people around us as well as to ourselves. Marijuana commonly referred to as weed is natural drug that is grown without adding any extra chemicals and is also one of the most commonly used drug in the U.S. We will take a look at marijuana effects on the body, tax payers’ benefits, and how it interferes with one’s civil liberty rights.
Marijuana is a commonly “illegal” used drug in the United States yet it is actually the only drug that is legal in some states of the United States. Marijuana is legal in 18 states for medical use. You are able to grow it and supply it to people but you are limited to growing only six to twelve mature plants. The use of this plant can range from something as severe as cancer to something as small as depression. Slowing down the growth of cancer cells as well as giving the brain a feeling of being “high” to help ones outlook on life. California is the biggest distributer of medical marijuana within the states and although you have to pay in order to grow and sell, it has become and honest living for some of the civilians in the state. Although there is a limit of plants you can have, it is not against the law to sell weed so long as you carry a registered identification card. Other states that permit people to distribute this drug are not interfering with ones liberty rights.
Within the Declaration of Independence as well as the Constitution it is stated that we have our right to pursue happiness in life. By not legalizing drugs, even if we are abusing it, the law is interfering with my chance of happiness. So long as we don’t infringe on others’ rights to life and property, why shouldn’t we be able to enjoy our life?
