Marin Luther was a very influential man who created the religion of Lutheranism. He performed many acts which many considered revolutionary, while at the same time staying conservative in other aspects. He was the author of the 95 theses, the leader of the Protestant Reformation, and the catalyst in the peasant rebellion. Luther came from a time when questioning the Church meant questioning your life. There were two people before Luther who openly opposed the Church. One was Jan Hus, who became a martyr. The other was John Wycliffe, who began translating scriptures. Martin Luther pounded the ninety five theses on the door to his church on Halloween. These theses questioned the Pope’s authority, the right to sell indulgences, the position of the Church in politics, and the corruption of religious leaders. They were not taken lightly, and when Luther was told to recant, he refused. He was then excommunicated and declared a convict, meaning he was no longer under the protection of the law. I believe this was a rebellious act due to the fact that Martin Luther was doing something that was completely prohibited in his time and he was willing to accept whatever the consequence was in order to get his faith across. While Luther was in exile, he hid in Fredrick III of Saxony’s castle. There he translated the bible into German so the people of Germany could read the scriptures for themselves. This was considered a major act of rebellion. The book was even put on the list of prohibited books. Again, Luther risked his life to do what he believed was right. Martin Luther’s brave acts and noble teachings greatly inspired the peasant class. They were enthralled by the words of Luther and obeyed his every word. Unfortunately, the peasants were going after overthrowing feudal depression rather than changing religion. They only wanted to find an opportunity to rebel, so in 1524 a massive revolt broke out. Luther denounced the revolt and even told the princes to wipe it out....
