Ever since I almost drown in a swimming pool, I have never gone to swimming ever again. I remembered vividly that instead of the life guard, a Good Samaritan actually saved me. There was once when I have to attend a one star kayaking course in order to promote to the next rank in NPCC. I have no choice but to attend. I have to overcome my fear eventually. It was a two day course at East Coast Park. For the first time, we have to swim back and forth. Even though we were wearing life-jacket, I still trembled with fear. In the end, I break through my fear. To my horror, that was not the end. We still have to learn how to capsize our boat. We need to overturn our boat and submerge from where the paddle lies. I was completely stunned over what the instructor said. How can I possibly do that? To avoid being laughed at, I still have to complete it no matter what. Perseverance is the key to success. I have to persevere till the end. I managed to accomplish my “mission”. After that, we went to the sea to kayak. The experience that I had was interesting. Finally, I heaved a sigh of relief, feeling elated that all these are over. And, of course I did not go for the next day. I was too afraid to go. As a result, I did not qualify for the promotion to the next rank and also no certificate was awarded to me. I felt quite embarrassed about it as I gave up half way through.
