Ricky’s First Fishing Trip
Beep, beep, my alarm goes off for me to get up. Today was the day. I went to my son’s room to wake him up. I said, “Wake up son we gotta go.”
He slowly got up, suddenly remembered what today was. He jumped out of bed and got ready to go. It was 5:00 am and I was taking my son on his very first fishing trip. Ricky, my son was nine years old today, it was his birthday, and he was very excited. I called downstairs to him, “Hurry up Ricky we have to leave or we will not make it before the sun comes up.”
He said,” Coming dad” then ran down stairs.
After we ate some breakfast together we embarked on our fishing journey. I had all ready gotten the boat set up and ready to go. Ricky came outside and said,
“Daddy, can anything bad happen to us while we are fishing?” I just shook my head and got into the truck. (I didn’t want to tell him of the real dangers of fishing). We got into my 1987 Ford pickup, and left the house. We drove down to Mr. Earl’s house, a good friend of mine. He was going to go with us today. We got to the house and I told Ricky to go get him. He walked up to the front door and rang the bell. Earl came out looking ready to go. He came to my window and said, “Everything ready for the trip, Jonathan?”
I said, “Yeah just hop on in and we’ll get this show on the road.”
After about an hour or so of boring driving, and hearing that horrible hard rock music Ricky liked, we were there. We decided to fish in my favorite spot of all. Ricky was starting to get nervous, since it was his first time fishing.
We had decided to fish in the Little PeeDee River today so we had to put the boat in at Gallivant’s Ferry, which was a place to put boats in the water. We got into the water and started to fish. Things were going great, we were catching fish, eating some very tasty snacks, and talking about life. Ricky was having a lot of fun, and enjoying his first fishing trip. About three hours had past since we got into the water....
