For many years, the questions “should abortion be illegal” and “is abortion murder” has been very popular among debates. This debate continues to divide Americans, even after the Fundamental Right was declared by US Supreme Court's 7-2 decision on Roe v. Wade.
Although there are many reasons abortion should legal, and many reasons abortion is necessary. Some believe abortion is murder no matter what the situation. There are many situations that abortion is the best thing. Not only for the mother, but for the fetus too. For example, many complications can occur during pregnancy. Having an Ectopic pregnancy, in which an embryo implants outside the uterus, can cause a woman to have serious health complications during the pregnancy and possibly die due to stroke and seizures caused by skyrocketing blood pressure. In this case the best thing to do for the mother and child is to end the process before it gets too far. According to The National Abortion Federation "between 1970 and 1980, legal abortion in the USA is estimated to have prevented 1,500 pregnancy-related deaths."
Another reason abortion should remain legal, is if a woman is raped and gets pregnant. She should have a choice if she wants to keep the baby or not. The baby would be a constant reminder of what happened, and could lead the mother neglecting her child, if memories fled back. 90% of pregnancies in girls ages 15 and under and due to rape from family members, most result in pregnancy. Being sexually assaulted is hard enough. Barring a child from an attack would just add on too it. RAINN estimates that there were 17,342 pregnancies as a result of rape in 2012. According to RAINN woman who are raped are also 26 times more likely to abuse drugs. That would not be safe for the baby.
Also a valid safety reason that abortion should remain legal is, if it becomes illegal woman will still find ways to do it themselves, thus “Back alley” abortions, popular in the 50’s was an illegal,...
