P5: Produce a requirement specification for a business process
Both medium to large companies, will have individuals or teams specialising in particular stages of the life cycle processes. Some of the work can be given to outsourced contractors, but this is only when the requirements can be translated fully into a formal specification which can then, result in vital information being lost. If this happened in a school for example, with one individual in charge it wouldn’t be much of a problem, but in a commercial environment like a hotel for example, it is very difficult.
The minimum requirement specification should include:
Scope of the work
Inputs
Outputs
Processes
My scope for the hotel:
The scope for the system is to update the system as it was made by a non-professional member of staff and can be improved, focusing also on improving the restaurant and sports facilities, promoting them and recording, in more detail, the income made from these areas.
Record keeping:
I also want to change the record keeping system being used currently by the hotel as it is having problems in key areas such as reservations and billings, the main source of income for the hotel. Because of the computer systems that are used by the hotel being outdated and standalone, records have to be repeated and mistakes are made, this has to be changed.
Sports facilities and restaurant:
These two areas are very important for keeping the customers staying at the hotel and attracting more people to the hotel. I will focus on how to improve these two areas and in doing so making sure that the two areas are used to their full potential.
IT facilities:
After looking at the current system and its condition, I suggest the hotel sets up its own IT department. Giving the size of the hotel I would suggest, two or three It staff that are trained and fully up to date with current systems as I believe this is what is needed to improve the Hotel’s current system.
