Personal Interview Paper
The person I chose to interview was Amber Castro B.S., MFTt, CATC III. I chose Amber because she has two different Human Services roles that she fulfills on a daily basis. She works mornings as a Senior Counselor for a women’s residential substance abuse program at Inland Valley Recovery Services. In the afternoons, she is working on getting her hours in as a Marriage and Family Therapist trainee at the men’s residential and Outpatient facility, also at Inland Valley Recovery Services. Although she stays busy, she is dedicated to Human Services and will continue to educate herself on the changes in Human Services as it pertains to her roles.
Due to Amber having two roles, she was asked about each role separately. When asked about the main focus of her job as Senior Counselor, Amber stated, “I have to do everything from delegate responsibility, to answer the phones. I also run family group before visiting, and throughout the day I use many of the 12 core functions, especially crisis intervention. Everything is a crisis in residential treatment”. As a MFT trainee Amber’s main focus would be group therapy. She facilitates a multifamily group as well as a couples group. Another major focus of the MFT trainee couple’s therapy and documentation. Documentation is a major part of all areas of Human Services.
A typical day for Amber starts at 4:30 when she gets up and gets her kids and herself ready for the day. They leave the house at 6, and Amber drops her kids off at school and arrives at work by 7:15. When she gets to her work station she spends a minimum of a half an hour going over the log book and talking to the staff she is relieving about any occurrences that have happened in the last 24 hours. By 8 o’clock she is doing any paper work she has or contacting...
