Personal Motivation
Motivation can be either physical or emotional and either internal or external. Personal motivation, however, is the desire of an individual which pushes them towards a set goal. Many individuals usually become sidetracked by the smallest interruption, but if that individual is equipped with personal motivators they can easily get back on track. Many factors in life can personally motivate an individual to further his or her ambitions. They include, but are not limited to, family, religion, and setting goals.
A family is a group of people who share common beliefs or activities. An individual’s family is the best contribution to their personal motivation. They are present in their life to lift their spirit and to keep them balanced in their decisions. Family values are the backbone of an individual’s personal motivation; they build the foundation of the individual’s life. When someone thinks of a foundation he or she thinks of stability, which is the state of being stable and resistant to change and in life individuals face many changes in which they have to adapt to.
Many individual’s religious beliefs, whatever that belief may be, motivate them positively. Whatever has occurred in a person’s life, religion plays a vital role in motivating them to strive to do better whether they are dealing with family issues, school, or work. “Moreover, one’s principal religious motivation may affect expressed religiosity different than social structure” (Welch and Barrish, 1982, p. 1). Praying, communicating with a pastor or anyone with a religious background, or attending religious ceremonies can lift an individual’s spirit.
