The PESTEL analysis is a useful tool that helps to consider the potential impact of influences in the macro-environment. It is applied to define the actions which are important and necessary to activate immediately in a company.
The Archdiocese of Port of Spain Trinidad Catholic Education Board is responsible for teachers and principals of catholic school nationwide. They along with the Ministry of Education develop the structure of the education system in catholic schools.
Political Impact
Changes in Government/Minister of Education affects the Catholic Board. A new minister of government could mean a change in policies or the policies already implemented may not be consistent. A change in curriculum can also occur or a change in the education focus. For example, in 2012 a new system, called the Continuous Assessment Component (CAC) of SEA, was added to SEA. This is where students are required to complete several small projects or essays throughout standards 3 to 5 which will be added to their overall SEA grade. Also SEA dates can be changed as it did in the year 2012 when the exam was postponed from March to May. This can affect the catholic schools’ liturgical activities. When a new minister is appointed the hiring of teachers can be stopped until further notice by the minister, this has occurred several time throughout the years, this will affect process of filling vacant posts and it can also result in over-working the teachers present in catholic schools.
