Persuasive Speech Outline
Introduction
Attention Getting Material:
Looking at these adorable puppies, you would think that you couldn’t find them at a shelter. But you can. When one thinks of an animal shelter, he/she would come to the conclusion that those animals there were most likely abused, abandoned and are now aggressive to humans. However, that is not the case.
Relevance: Knowing more about pet stores and puppy mills will allow the audience to decide where they will be getting their pet if they want to bring one into their life.
Purpose: The purpose of my speech is to persuade the audience to consider adopting a pet from the SPCA or a local shelter instead of buying one from the pet store or other sources when he/she is committed to bringing an animal into his/her life.
Preview: I am going to address the reasons why one should consider adopting a pet instead of buying one from a pet store.
Transition: Have you ever wonder what happens to the animals that do not have a home? They are usually wandering the streets. If they are lucky enough, someone kind will find them and turn them over to a local animal shelter. From there, they will get a second chance. Adopting a pet from a shelter will give you the satisfaction of knowing that you have done a good deed.
I. Reasons why one should adopt a pet instead
1. You will save a life
“Staff members sometimes…make…decisions to euthanize animals who haven’t been adopted” meaning that they put the animals to sleep (Humane Society of the United States, 2011)
By adopting, you will be saving two lives; the life of the animal you are adopting and the life of another wandering animal. Animal shelters are usually overcrowded, so when an animal is adopted, there will be room for the shelter to take in another animal.
Transition: Not only that…
2. You are giving the pet you are adopting “a second chance at finding a home” (American Humane Association, 2011)...
