For My critical Project Appraisal I will present the pre production of the screenplay “Pomegranate Rocks”. PRE PRODUCTION We came to the decision to produce Script “Pomegranate Rocks”- During Preproduction, as a group we all sat together and came to an agreement for shooting dates .I made a list of all the video and lighting equipment we would need for the shoot with Violet (who was acting as director). We designed the floor plan whilst referring to the storyboard for the positioning of the cameras and their lighting. Our initial concerns after reading the script were; stunt safety (pomegranate through window) and finding a suitable location. We eventually decided that because of health and safety issues that would arise through a stunt such as this, we would have to imply the throwing of the pomegranate. During Preproduction we decided that the film should keep the city’s location anonymous as this gave it a more mysterious feel and also frees the viewers mind to apply the underlying moral message to any modern day city. The recce visits would now have to include this, so we would have to find a location that did not have any identifiable qualities and also the change in tone of the film. Initially we were going to use Newport Town Hall (for an establishing shot) , a fruit and Veg stall in the town centre and Newport University’s Studio, as these could quite easily be kept anonymous. CASTING This was an issue we fell short on. Our first choice was to use performing arts students but as a result of our lack of preparation and their refusal to join the project was disastrous. We looked around local theatre schools and drama classes but all was to no avail at such short notice, however a post on a casting website reaped many replies and willing participants all of which, unfortunately, were too late for the production of the film. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT I decided to concentrate on the conflicts of interest of the two main characters of the film – Jack Beyer...
