In lesson 2 presentation it spoke on Romans 14, which was about not treating others or I should say judging others for what they practice or don’t practice, that is different from our own belief and practices. After glancing and hearing this on the powerpoint presentation I had to pause and take it upon myself and read Romans chapter 14. As I read I began to reflect on this day (March 17, 2014) in my own life and the differences of living habits that my roommate and I have on what is important around the house.
Reading Romans 14 made me break down and tears came to my eyes. At that point of breaking down I had realized my own sin in nit picking and wanting things done my way. I’ve been guilty of passing judgments and being fussy about things that have affected both of us. It especially affected my peace and my ability to grow closer to my LORD and Savior. I understand now from reading Romans 14 and lesson 2 that we have to accept others difference no matter what they are and not judge. We have to remember that judging and causing confrontation over what is not our place to judge does not please GOD. We have to live and grow and understand our own place before directing someone else’s life. How can we guide if we do not ourselves grow to learn by reading and understanding?
In our lesson it made a point that we can honor God by reading and thinking. Without literature and the furthering of our understanding, we miss out on the deeper meanings behind certain text like Romans 14. I could have just listened to the powerpoint and not have grasped what God was putting in my face about my own life. It is very important that we do not just hear what is being told to us but instead grasping it and understanding it and reading for ourselves, just to clarify that what has been heard can be claimed as true. Such as like television how can you just take what is said on television as true? You should want to know what you are watching and hearing...
