The management of project takes tremendous efforts from all employees that are directly involved along with the employees that are indirectly involved. The management employees that are directly involved are usually making the decisions based on the needs of the project. The author has been directly involved with numerous projects over the last few years since being promoted to a project manager. He not only has been managing his own projects but also has been involved with other employee projects that needed a little extra attention. The project that he has most recently been involved with is the repair division of the company where he is employed.
Project Description
The project can best be described as the repair and overhaul division. The company is a multimillion-dollar company that manufactures ejection seats for the US Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force. The ejection seats require scheduled maintenance just as a vehicle needs scheduled maintenance over a set period of time. The author had been tasked to manage this new project since the repair and overhaul division is trying to win a multimillion-dollar contract. The goals were to get the project started and sustained. The division started under a different manager and the project never fulfilled the requirements needed to be profitable.
Definition and Characteristics
The project described by the author meets the definition and characteristics as defined in Ch. 1 of Project Management because it is a temporary endeavor that will lead to multiple contracts in the future.
