As one of PUC students and a group leader, I attended political science class and was assigned to participate in CSL (Community Service Learning). CSL sent me as well as my five members to an non-government organization known as Maryknoll. I along with my group members went to Maryknoll every Sunday started on August 17, 2008 until October 5, 2008. We totally accomplished the 24 hours work there. After we had joined CSL orientation and gotten some guidelines, we as at team was able to set up our plan of management and schedule. We began with our observation about Maryknoll. Maryknoll mission is to commit to being in Cambodia, to struggle alongside the poor in Cambodia, to help them reach their goals for themselves, their society, and their country to help them strengthen the building blocks of Society which will strengthen peace in their land, and walk with them on the path to peace in their hearts." The Maryknoll were the houses which provide the support to HIV positive kids. As we were there we provided those kids not only entertainments but there are also soft skill and general knowledge beyond. We taught them English, math, general knowledge and especially how to live clean and how to behave in a proper way in the society. We all encountered hardship and difficulties. Our negative reflection were being lack of information about that organization, lack of materials, the problem with the roads, and CSL did not keep up to date with the information we got from the organization as well as the problem we were facing. But we learnt quite a lot from this community work. Those valuable things that came out from our service learning were group work experience, theories and concepts we learned from school and applied in the real world, certificate of achievement, community work.
