Romeo and Juliet Essay

One of the most important romantic scenes in all of literature is the orchard scene in Romeo and Juliet. In this scene, we find out how truly in love Romeo and Juliet are and the dialogue that they have is very romantic. This scene is renowned worldwide as one of the most famous representations of true love. Every line in this particular scene is beautifully scripted to have a great affect on the reader. In this essay, I will prove that this is one of the most powerful and romantic scenes in all of literature.

There are very many different reasons as to why this is one of the most romantic scenes ever written, but for this essay I will only be focusing on a few. The first of which, would have to be the romantic and poetic dialogue exchanged between the two. Many lines from this scene are famous, for example lines such as “But soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun!” (2-3), “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?” (35) And “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose/ by any other name would smell as sweet” (45-46). The words that Romeo and Juliet exchange in their orchard meeting show the true power of love. Romeo is so stricken with love at the party that he can’t leave her be, so he goes to find her. When she enters from above, he launches into a soliloquy about her beauty and how he loves her so much. Then he overhears Juliet talking about Romeo, wondering why his name ha to be Montague, saying how if he wont change his name, she’ll change hers. After further talking, with such quotes as “With love’s light wings did I overperch these walls/ for stony limits cannot hold love out” (70-71), “O gentle Romeo/ If thou dost love, pronounce it faithfully.” (97-98) and “My bounty is as boundless as the...
