SEE THE DIFFERENCE
If somebody wants to learn something about the cultures or life styles of the nations, it can be a good idea to choose good example cities to compare such as Istanbul and Philadelphia. They are located so far from each other on the surface of the world, yet have a lot of differences and also similarities.
One obvious difference is the people. Because Istanbul is a homogeneous society of one nationality, almost all people living in Istanbul are Turkish. If you see a person who is speaking a different language, you can easily say that he is a tourist. In addition, people can ask that “Istanbul is a very crowded city, how come there are not any people from another nations living in Istanbul?” This is a simple question to answer because people in the other cities of Turkey think Istanbul as a paradise where they can have a job, and live in comfort. Therefore, they immigrate to Istanbul which makes Istanbul a crowded city, and there are no places for foreigners to live. On the other hand, Philadelphia is exactly different from Istanbul. Since it is a heterogeneous society like the other cities of the USA, you can come across people with different nationalities everywhere. For instance, when you get on a bus, you may see Turkish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, English, Arabic… people traveling together.
The other important difference between the people of Istanbul and Philadelphia is that people living in Philadelphia are very kind and usually happy. You can see that while you are out of your house. For example, in Philadelphia, if a pedestrian tries to cross the

street, drivers usually allow you to do it. Nevertheless, in Istanbul, it is impossible to cross the street while traffic light is red for pedestrians. Moreover, in Philadelphia you often hear these words, “excuse me”, and “sorry” because people are very kind and they know how to apologize, but in Istanbul it is not easy to hear the words like these.
