Riordan Manufacturing is a global plastics manufacturer employing 550 people with projected annual earnings of $46 million. There are multiple locations for the companies produced products so support their business endeavors. Plastic beverage containers are produced in Albany, GA. The Pontiac, MI plant produces custom plastic parts and the Hangzhou, China Plant produces plastic fan parts. The company also has a research and development division located in their headquarters in San Jose, CA (Apollo Group, 2013). Riordan Manufacturing, in their quest to stay ahead of business problems, would like to take advantage of a more sophisticated and modern information system in their Human Resources department. They would also like to have the project completed within six months so that they can begin using the new HRIS by second quarter of next year. This paper will describe the application architecture and process design of the new HR system which will include a high-level description of security controls recommended for this new project.
Security Controls
One major concern of any project is security. "Security is primarily the responsibility of the operations group, which consist of the staff responsible for installing and operating security controls such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and routine backup and recovery operations" (Dennis, Wixom, & Roth, 2012). Within the information system, security is also a responsibility of the system developers. System data, processes and the network all have to be concerns of good security measures.
System data: Keeping data secure and confidential is a must. All company data, which includes company policies and procedures, as well as employee data containing employment records will be held responsible under Riordan Manufacturing.
