Sex Offenders A 55 year old man is being charged with multiple accounts of sexual assault. One incident took place 25yrs ago on a male family member. The more recent one was on a young boy he was babysitting. This isn’t the first time he has sexually touched a boy he was babysitting .Judge Bruce Durnosentenced Gordon Hampton to 15 months in jail and granted him 3yrs probation. The terms of his probation seem light, he is to have no contact with his victims or their family members and he cannot enter public pools and parks where kids under the age of 16 are present. The Judge stated that because of the trust the family members put into Hampton, it was necessary to give him a jail time. Hampton’s lawyer Richard Darrah feels his client’s actions are on the low end of the sexual assault scale and feels that his punishment is too severe. He recommended his client be given 18 months probation with no jail time what so ever. He feels Hampton has already been punished with the loss of his job, friends and family members all deserting him. Out of the total nine incidents, most of them involved “over the clothes touching”, while others consisted of fondling genitalia for “sexual purposes”. Before Hampton was sentenced he was evaluated by a psychiatrist who reported he be put on a suicide watch. I believe the main issue in this article is the fact that Gordon Hampton sexually assaulted young boys he was given charge of. He was trusted by friends and neighbors to look after their children and he took advantage and abused that trust to the highest degree. I think that Gordon Hampton should be punished much more severely. I believe that the sexual acts he committed are quite viatile
