Based on my previous project and new research that I have done I am sorry to say that we still are unprepared to face an earthquake of an 8.0 magnitude.  I did more research and familiarized myself with the information needed in the event of an earthquake.  I feel my family is still unprepared for the disaster.  Especially living in Southern California you will need to be prepared to live on your own for up to seven days.
My families current situation in to our preparedness for an earthquake in very limited when you look at what the experts say are recommended in the event of a large earthquake.  It is recommended that you have a disaster bag with clothes, first aid, water, food, blanket, and anything else necessary to live for the next week. My family does not currently have a survival bag. These survival bags should also be placed in your car in the event that you are not at home during an earthquake you will still have the tools to survive. I went to the local fire station in Coto de Caza and talked to firefighter Paul Robertson. He informed me of the need to have these survival kits and be prepared to “camp out at your house”. My household would also be considered unsafe in the event of an earthquake because of the many trophies located above my bed. Also we have large picture frames in the hallway. These would be highly dangerous in and earthquake causing them to possibly injure you by falling. After having already done an earthquake preparedness project its not good to know how unprepared my family is still. Probably the most dangerous rooms to be in during an earthquake is the garage in my house. There is large space case carrying cases that are strapped to the ceiling of the garage. These would most likely fall in an earthquake also we have hanging shelves which carry storage boxes on them making the garage a potential for serious...
