Technology has been growing fast due to the demand of people and the world competition. From time to time, it brings changes to our daily lives. Nowadays, it is usual to see that everyone has a smartphone on their hands searching for information, playing games, listening to music and so on. Smartphones are defined as technology as a tool. Thus, the potential of technology for changing the tourism industry should not be neglected.
In order to have a deeper understanding of how technology may change the tourism industry, two closed related journals has been helped to provide the information for the foundation of this analysis. Each of the study has a fruitful information background and clearly point out how the technology is changing the tourism industry. Both have their pros and cons opinions towards to the influences that technology brings to the tourism industry. The journals are as follows: “The Role of Smartphones in Mediating the Touristic Experience” (Wang, Park & Fesenmaier, 2012) and “Tourism in Technology Dead Zones: Documenting Experiential Dimensions” (Pearce & Gretzel, 2012).
From the journal of Wang, Park and Fesnmaier (2012), the study aims to investigate how the smartphones may change the tourism business in different aspects by defining the role of smartphones plays in the tourism industry. Smartphones play a significant in mediating the tourism because of its accessibility. Information can be accessed anytime and anywhere the tourists want through the smartphones. This states the great potential of how technology can influence the tourists. Apart from the accessibility, the dramatic increase number of smartphones users also leads to the influence of tourism. Technology changes emotional state and the behavior of tourists by providing their information needs.
