Can a sacrifice lead to death? Shadow of The Dragon is a Novel, by Sherry Garland. It is a story about two teenage boys who make sacrifices for the betterment of their loved ones. Sang Le, the older of the two, has made countless sacrifices for his family, Ba, and Danny. One of the people Sang Le sacrifices for is Ba, his grandmother. “Didn’t you tell Ba you would quit smoking?” says Danny (Pg.282). Sang Le is not doing something he enjoys for Ba’s happiness. This is one of the only things Sang Le enjoys and he is willing to give it up for Ba. Sang Le says “I promise to leave the gang Ba” (Pg.256). Sang Le is leaving one of the only places he fits in for Ba. Since Sang Le is leaving the gang he will not be able to see his best friend, Tho the only person he can relate to, anymore. One of the many sacrifices the greatest one of them all is when he saved Danny from the river, ultimately destroying his life. Sang Le risked his life to save Danny’s life which got him sick. Because of Sang Le’s sickness he was unable to go to America, consequently his parents died because of it. Sang Le also got Danny a date with his dream girl, “How could Sang Le possibly arrange a blind date with Tiffany Shultz?”(Pg.201) Danny thought to himself.
