soil bin

soil bin

I came to class and emptied the same and replaced it with soil. I was a little disappointed and learned that there are different types of soil. this soil had pieces of sticks and not as soft as I wanted it to be. Something to remember for the future is to use topsoil.

I added gardening tools, fake flowers and flower pots to the bin. The children were very excited about the change and it was a very popular centre. because of it's popularity it became a very messy centre so we had to come up with additional classroom rules for the the sensory bin and what could and could not be added to the bin.

The children created gardens and pretended to be gardeners. Once the rules were implemented it was a less messy centre and we provided a mini dustpan and broom to assist in the teaching the children about cleaning as they go.

I was surprised that the children even enjoyed sweeping the soil up. If I was to do this sensory bin again I wouldn't have it in the room at the same time as a water table as it makes a very dirty floor.
